Meet Street Fair Merchants Ed and Josie Galang!
Today I want to take you back to 1989 when the Street Fair was still relatively new and the number one song was Every Rose Has Its Thorn. Ed and Josie Galang were living and working in Los Angeles both with full time jobs raising three young children. They dreamed of giving their children a good education and realized that even with their combined incomes it would not be possible.
Determined to make their mission a reality they started their own business at The Street Fair selling tools and accessories. During those early years they traveled with their children from Los Angeles to College of the Desert to set up and run their business every weekend. They were teaching their children the value of hard work and realizing their dream of sending them to good educational institutions.
This November marks the 33rd anniversary of Ed and Josie’s business opening at the Street Fair. You will find them there with their tools and accessories booth every Saturday and Sunday. Today they no longer commute from Los Angeles because they fell in love with the desert community and made it home.
Their dream and mission came true as their children all received their college degrees and post graduate studies at the University of San Diego, Academy of Arts in San Francisco, UC Berkely and Columbia University.
Ed and Josie send their heartfelt thanks to the College of the Desert family, the management and staff, co-vendors, and patrons alike for the realization of their life’s mission.
The Alumni Association has contributed over 14 million dollars to support students at College of the Desert. We completed our promise of $750,000 to the plEDGE program in 2020. This would not be possible without the Street Fair and vendors like Ed and Josie.
